New Board Emphasizes Statewide Role

Milwaukee – Emerge Wisconsin welcomes five new members to its 2014-2015 Board of Directors:

  • Carmen Cabrera (Milwaukee), Centro Hispano MKE Latino Round Table Director
  •  Analiese Eicher (Sun Prairie), Emerge Alumna and former Dane County Board Supervisor
  • Katy Phillips (Eau Claire), Democratic Party leader and activist
  • Diane Odeen (River Falls), Emerge Alumna and City Council member
  • Rep. Melissa Sargent (Madison), Emerge Alumna and State Assembly Representative

The talents and experience of our new board members will enhance our capacity to train Democratic women to run for office successfully as well as providing geographic diversity and strengthening our organizational reach across Wisconsin's political landscape,” said Paula Zellner, Emerge Wisconsin Board Chair.

Returning board members are: Chair Paula Zellner (Porterfield); Vice-Chair Carousel Bayrd (Madison); Secretary Lashell Drake (Milwaukee); Treasurer Melanie Franklin (Spencer); Karen Campbell (Milwaukee); Noelle Joers-Yanisch (Greendale); Tara Johnson (La Crosse); Margo Miller (Portage); Annie Wacker (Milwaukee); Lisa Theo (Stevens Point); and Heather Ullsvik-Loomans (Milwaukee).

Since 2007, Emerge Wisconsin has recruited and trained 137 Democratic women from across the state to run for office at all levels, providing the tools and a network of support for success in the world of politics. Emerge graduates have gone on to win races ranging from Village Trustee to State Senate. Nationally, Emerge has expanded to fourteen states to train the next generation of female Democratic leaders across the country.   Emerge is located in Arizona, California, Colorado, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
