BACKGROUND Emerge Wisconsin is a political leadership training program for Democratic women in Wisconsin. The Emerge mission is to identify, educate, and inspire Democratic women who want to run for political office at the local, state, and national level in Wisconsin. Emerge is dedicated to making a long-term investment in these future leaders by developing their political and media skills and expanding their knowledge of state and local issues.

THE OPPORTUNITY Emerge is seeking a highly motivated, talented, and dynamic individual to serve as the Executive Director. This individual will report to the Emerge Wisconsin Board of Directors. The Executive Director will implement the Emerge 7-month training curriculum, support program members, and build our infrastructure with the assistance of the national umbrella organization, Emerge America, and Emerge Wisconsin’s working Board of Directors. The Executive Director will inspire women to run for, and win, elected office.

THE POSITION The Executive Director is the face of Emerge Wisconsin. The Executive Director runs the Emerge program and is responsible for building and maintaining the organizational infrastructure, including overseeing the Program Coordinator and additional employees / interns.

Responsibilities include:


  • Direct solicitation of fundraising, in person and over the phone, of both current and new donors across Wisconsin
  • Work with the Fundraising Committee to schedule, execute, and host successful events across the state, including 1 - 2 large events in Milwaukee and/or Madison
  • Work with the Board of Directors on other fundraising opportunities as they arise
  • Seek out, and apply for, grant opportunities to financially support Emerge Wisconsin and its mission


  • Implement intensive 7-month training program
  • Manage program member outreach, recruitment, and selection process with the Recruitment Committee and the Board of Directors
  • Work with Curriculum Committee to develop and implement program and assist with recruiting trainers
  • Oversee and work with the Program Coordinator to organize and host weekend training sessions


  • Represent the organization and expand Emerge Wisconsin’s network of diverse women, including working with elected officials, political activists, non-profit and political communities, the media, and the public
  • Manage relationships with the Emerge program members, program alumnae, the Advisory Board, and the Board of Directors
  • Actively work with Emerge America to obtain technical assistance, training, and sharing best practices among affiliates


  • Maintain all financial records for the organization, with the assistance from the Board Treasurer
  • File regular finance reports
  • Supervise, direct, and evaluate the Program Coordinator and any other future staff and/or interns, with input from the Board of Directors


  • Passion for advancing women and knowledge of women’s political leadership issues and politics Demonstrated commitment to Democratic ideals
  • Ability to develop trusted and effective working relationships with diverse and multi-cultural constituencies, including community and political leaders, current class members and alumni, the Board of Directors and the Advisory Board, staff, donors, volunteers and supporters, and other stakeholders
  • Fundraising experience
  • Great organizational skills
  • Effective multi-tasking abilities and efficiency in time management
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent computer skills, including word processing and excel
  • Social media knowledge, including understanding how to use twitter, facebook, and contribute to our website
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Non-profit management experience in some of the following functions: boards of directors, staff, budgets, administrative functions, and program development
  • Bachelor degree strongly preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered Executive Director is a full time position.

You must work at least one weekend/month for 7 months for Emerge Wisconsin trainings. Access to your own vehicle is required. Some lifting and transporting of training materials may be required. Additional early evening and weekend hours may be required for events, etc.

SALARY Range of $45,000 - $60,000 plus benefits, with bonus opportunities, commensurate with experience.
